C'mon, guys,
This was the 1930s. Remember the WERS 112 Mhz radios? The size of them? And the size of those Forest Service radios? Miniaturization was a thing of the future. I'll bet there were a lot of knowledgable people who thought you couldn't put a 4 MHz crystal controlled transmitter and a superhet receiver into a package the size of a 611 and make it work twice in a row. And, maybe they were right, based on previous comments on here. Now, what kind of reliability would you expect from a 30 MHz version of same? Radio designers were not yet accoustomed to designing, much less building miniature VHF equipment.
BTW, is there any reliable after battle analysis of 611 failures? Do we really know why they were so widely reviled?
