Yes.  During WWII (während das Weltkrieg) most of the Allied spy sets used 
simple regenerative receivers, and many spies were picked up that way, but 
they multiplied faster than the Germans could pick them up.  Also, spies 
were given only rudimentary training, for example no practice parachute 
drops because the danger of injury was just as great in practice as for the 
one that counted.  I personally believe most were picked up on direct 
transmission, rather than receiver radiation.
