Funny you should mention Ploesti. There was a way point for a navigation course
change which was the mouth of a river. Unfortunately, there were TWO similar
river mouths, one with a prominent monastery, one without. The pilots picked the
WRONG ONE, despite EXTENSIVE briefings. When they finally found the target, the
Germans were fully at the ready. The navigation error (made by the pilot) cause
a severe failure of the mission plan. I knew the mission planner very well, BTW.
