[Milsurplus] Question about signal generator

Hi

I think you will find that what you have is more commonly known as a
"Measurements Model 80 Standard Signal generator". Like a lot of
American companies Measurements went through several ownership / name
changes. In 1961 the name of the company was "Measurements, A McGraw
Edison Company". They were located in Boonton, New Jersey.

The generator covers 2 to 400 MHz if I remember correctly. The
oscillator is a acorn tube. The frequency selection is via a large
turret with the RF oscillator components on it. The attenuator is a
"coax beyond cutoff" type with a pickup loop that slides up and down in
the tube.

These were one of the workhorse generators of their era. In the 1950's
before the UHF bands became popular you could find may of them in US
two way FM radio repair shops. These were common enough generators that
manuals should be out there on the net. I did not see any in a quick
search. There probably was a military version of the generator as well
but I don't know what it was called. If there was a military version
then a manual for it is probably available as well.

The only thing to be sure of when using the generator is to put a 6 db
pad on the output. The coax and sense loop setup does not always
provide a well matched 50 ohm output impedance from the generator.
Other than that this was a standard piece of bench gear designed for
daily use by normal human beings. Like all tube based gear you need to
be careful powering it up, but if it fires up then it's fine.

	Take Care!
