Kids, i, as usual (hi) have a pretty good guess.
Have a look at the style of the characters in the hand-written
"SMT-1 SW TRANSMITTER.....". Some subtle qualities in
the schematic style as well. The term "X-tal Resonator" as well
is weird altho by itself is not decisive. The giveaway is the
formation of the characters "5" and "7" as in the handwritten
entries on the frequency chart, as in "7.2" "0.5" and "5.8"
The "seven" has a little short vertical stroke on the left of
the top bar. The total giveaway is the formation of the character
"five": it's drawn as the Japanese form it: almost looking like
an "S", but with the top horizontal stroke almost slapped
across the top, like the final stroke of 2 different pen strokes
to complete this character. This style derives, i think, from
forming Japanese characters with a more of a brush-based
stroke. Note also the slope of the characters. ( I guess it
helps to have had some exposure to typical Japanese
number notations already. )
If i'm wrong, i'll eat my campaign cap, but my take is: built
under the inspiration of, if not absolute direction of, the
US mililtary, BUT BUILT BY JAPANESE. Does it matter
that it maybe likely just was intended as a training
transmitter for the re-forming JSDF ( Japan Self Defense
Force ) ? The US Army and CIA already had plenty
of equipment they could use for Korea stay-behind and
sleeper agents. NO - it doesn't matter anymore, because
the bidder crowd has smelled blood and is seized by bid
fever.
Now how come you all didn't pick up on the characters
and other clues? One week of KP for you!
