My experience in attempting direct sales through the lists
has been the polar opposite.
I get little or no offers. What offers I get are
the "pennies on the dollar" type you describe.
But that's not the biggest reason.
One of the main reasons I put stuff on Ebay:
I get some really cool and desirable thingie.
Lots of people- including people whom I owe favors
and who are my friends- want the thingie.
I only have one.
I can't give it to every friend who wants it.
I've tried raffles. I've tried puzzles.
I've tried "first come." I've tried everything I know.
The result is the same- people are human and when they've
been "passed-over" two or three times, no matter how "fair"
it was done, they resent it and there are hard feelings.
I don't like dealing with that and I don't like feeling
guilty every time I have to tell a friend: "sorry; it's gone."
I'd rather put it on Ebay and "let the best man win."
That may not be the best answer,
But it works for me.
