It never ceases to amaze me just how great the Command sets are. Just finished off a 3 rx rack and sets, the receivers are great little things, easy to tune and quite sensitive for their age.
Just working on a 2 set tx rack and transmitters. Powered up a 3-4 Mhz tx off the bench psu, got about 25w out on 400 odd volts or so. Just finished off the psu part of an outboard psu/modulator I'm building and tried it on the tx.
The bench power meter is a 60w job. It pined the neddle on the stop. I am feeding 550v ht to the tx with a 210v stab ht supply for vfo, 10k dropper to the screens just to test the set. 60 Watt out ! I have added about three turns around the base of the tank coil in series with the aerial coupling coil and it certainly seems to have helped.
Next stage is to finish off the modulator, wire it up to the rack with a bit of switching and it will be ready to air. Should work quite well I think.
