BTW, re the "NVIS on German vehicles" thread here a few months back,
i just dug out this manual:
"D963/8 MERKBLATT Für die behelfsmässige Herrichtung von
handelsübliche Kraftwagen als Ersatz-Funkkraftwagen 1-11-1941"
( approximately, how to rig available vehicles as usable radio post
vehicles )
It shows drawings and photos of interest to this thread, namely
a couple examples-
1- A "pipe-rack" antenna "Dachantenna (Rohr) für geschl. Lkw. Aufbau"
which shows a 4 x 4 matrix of pipes - insulated ONLY at the perimeter,
all pipe junctions are solid - thus NO LOOP antenna. The height above
the roof of vehicle, 300 mm. (Not very tall at say, 1500 kHz ! )
2- "Eine einfache Behelfs-Dachantenna für Lkw. mit geschlossenem
Aufbau" ( a simple extemporized roof antenna for motor vehicle with
closed (roofed) body ) which consists of a wire run zig-zag back and
forth across the roof from a wooden support beam running lengthwise,
at each side top of the vehicle - manual sez wood beam is 30 mm x 45 mm,
supported "minimum" 300 mm off the roof on supports. The wire makes
15 crossings of the roof and simply terminates at the front end by the
wire running down to the radio equipment. NO LOOP antenna!
