Ken doesn't quote the interesting part of the 838 entry in that '38 RCA book: "The grid is constructed so that the amplification factor of the tube varies with the amplitude of the input signal." DOn't believe I'd read that before. Too bad my Radio Prof died a couple of years ago, I'd like to discuss that with him. Anyhow, in the fine, make that tiny print at the end, it further swz: "Rewfer to type 805 for a plate family of average characteristics which also applies to this type."
Funny guys, this RCA pre-war bunch. I've got a photo of a HF/DF system they built mounted on a circular aluminum plate some 20 feet in diameter on top of an old woody station wagon ca. 1939. I'll have to find someone who can post it for general edification.
