The AN-131 Long Antenna for the SCR-300 / BC-1000 is 8 sections of  16- 3/4 
inch long brass rods, with a retaining wire run thru them. I encountered a
slightly different style altho marked with same nomenclature AN-131-A. 

The one i call "older style",  judging by the less-modern looking typefont
of the nomenclature and use notice painted on the antenna base section
rod, has also 8 rods, but - while the bottom 2 are made of one continuous
rod, the top 6 rods are made up, each, of  2 shorter rods spliced together
with a short metal coupling collar. I assume maybe at that moment in time,
in the smaller diameters of the 6 upper rods, the full 16 inch length was
not available, requiring patching shorter lengths together.  -Hue Miller
