GE, All, I hope I have touched base with everyone who explained and
commented on the wondrous effect of cataract surgery:-)
Well, I had it done last thursday, as well as recording :"Strategic Air
Command" on the DVR. Both went fantastic. It is truly amazing to see
white again, and to have the vision of the 23 year old GW --hi--.... did
you actually know that a B-36 was silver where the aluminum sections are
and matte silver where the magnesium sections are????? evem the cables
leaving the radar nav equipment and the radios were white!!!!!! Truly
amazing, I never would have known!!! --hi--...
Yes, I have watched the movie, to the XYL's dismay, many times, to
witness the wonderful milspec equipment in it's original glory and color
(she has a real hard time understanding my addiction, sorry) bad enough
that alone, but when combined with Greenkeys, firearms
collecting/shooting and gunsmithing (I am a retired
aeronautical/electrical engineer, even though 58, a service connected
injury has allowed me to enjoy my avocations full time, minus the
ability to sit in the pointy end of things which aviate and go very
fast. since both the FAA and the Military take a dim view of those with
closed head injuries, migraines, and vertigo to sit in the Left/front
seat, hence the necessity to enjoy this pursuit from afar via TV,
etc)......... Martin Baker may produce an extremely quality product,
and one which works unfailingly, but the side effects are sometimes
rather unpleasant, especially when combined with an automobile accident
some years later in which GW's head managed to break the steering wheel
--hi--////
Anyhow, I would like to inform all those who explained the procedure
they were 100% correct, it was the simplest operation I ever had, with
the most immediate and striking results I have ever seen ( sheesh) bad
pun........ so I now have a new lens with a model and serial number
(should I post it to the group as an addition to the milspec list???
;=). Vision at the checkup was 20/15 WOW!!!!!!
I can't wait for the 9th to come around so I can have the right eye
match the left, darn, I',m tired of squinting to close the bad eye.....
OK, that explanation is done....... now on to an "on topic question and
request". I have two items which require some TLC and restoration,
because of previous owner hacking and "improvement".......
The first is a BC-341-Q........ The main switch assembly was removed
and replaced with a toggle switch, so I require the knob, shaft, switch
assembly (Off/On/AGC), the correct rear connector ( I',m not gonna look
it up right now), the dynamotor, 2 "toilet seats" for the phones jacks,
and the push ANT/GND
connectors, since said "improver" removed same and installed a coax
connector on the rear panel. I am also going to have to close up a
huge hole where a kludged "S" meter was installed, while useful, it just
looks crummy, and detracts from the originality of the unit.....
repainting and remarking will come later..........oh yeah I need the
left hand handle for the front panel, as it broke off when I was
removing the unit from the case, broke right at the bend at the
attachment point......I would rather have a replacement than repair the
one that is broken............I will keep the group advised of any other
goodies I may need..... If any of you have these available, pse advise
price, shipping, etc and we will do the deal.... I want to get started
as soon as I get the other eye in servicable condition and operating
normally.
OK, second......Gibson Girl........ anyone have the leg strap assy? I
also could use a set of both HV/ LV brushes for the genny, and a
replacement plastic lens for the "Keep Lighted" indicator for genny
speed ( mine was, inexplicably, punched thru the center by the previous
hacker..............Also, if anyone has the "cap" for the generator
shaft which was originally in place when the unit was not being used,
pse advise..... the unit works fine, but could use those few cosmetic
parts to return same to accuracy, now that the FCC is issuing MF
experimental licences, I should apply for one, and just may fabricate
a new keying cam, and use it in conjunction with the BC-341 using my
call sign asking for signal reports.... might be fun.... I can always
replace the original cam at any time, and using several "Happy B'Day or
other party balloons on the antenna will at least, in spirit, keep the
original configuration intact. I figure my existing ground radial system
I have now will work, unless I want to go for realism and actually go
down the shore, get a raft ( EZ, daughter's fiance already owns one, not
quite original, more like a Zodiac, but close enough...) and a battery
reciever for 500KHz, paddle out a ways, run the ant up, and crank away
asking for sig reports --hi--...... I always wanted to see just how good
that "yellow wonder" worked...... I also figure I can get those two
(daughter, fiance) to be conned into cranking the coffee grinderd--hi---
the OM can't do it all....
AbAnyhow, many thanks for the advise on the cataract surgery...it is
truly wonderful.......I can't wait for the other eye... If anyone has
info or parts availability, just post me a reply, and I think we can do
business rather easily.....
