I have owned both MAB and DAV radios, they both use the same module for
the radio. they both had the same battery pack and the DAV had the neat
advantage of being in a plywood case, they were water tight, had real
power switches, real canvas carrying cases and strap attachments and
eventually had a six volt wet cell with vibrator pack to replace the dry
battery pack. although I can not prove that they were used in any
quality, would speculate that its a essayer radio to service, better
radio to operate due to using real switches, headset and throat
microphone, not to mention that the DAV had a DF mode. In that sense
this line had more options and flexibility then the BC-611, not to
mention they were a natural to net with all the Navy equipment like the
TBX and TCS. the BC-611 although a great radio for its time ultimately
turned out to be a technological blind alley, and before everyone starts
to tell me how I have no idea what I am talking about and what about the
PRC-6, PRR/PRT9, PRC-68 and all the subsequent hand held radios I have
to say that I do not feel that the PRC-6 or all that came after that
owes anything in its design to the BC-611 other then they are both hand
held.
