AMEN. "Green book 1" sez Army saw it at Galvin who'd built it
on spec. This was mid '41 & Army just plain got the must-haves.
Ordered first batch around Ft. Monmouth

Organizational. My gess about use is it was a squad radio with 2 issued
per. One a running spare. Let squad keep in touch with platoon (4
squads). Inter-platoon & beyond was BC-1000

Tho if you watch "Saving Private Ryan," you'd think every 10th man had
a BC-1000. A styrofoam BC-1000.

Some say keeping BC-611s alive was a logistic nightmare & coastal French
roads were paved with the things.

My favorite BC-1000 legend is about the rangers that sneaked to the
inland naval artillery emplacement that had been Pt. du Hoc. Got
there by just watching outbound rounds. Then trained USN fire right
in. My gess is only radios that'd do it were BC-1000s. Interservice
2-way cooperation.

  Marty
