One story was in early '42, anybody with tooling for a Army radio
was told to re-start prod'n if there was any proven need.  Last
contract spec would prevail.

I think the 32-ish '178 was mostly made by Cardwell

The 'proven need' was, per Stillwell, the Indonesian Chindits who used
them with the hand-crank generator out of rice paddies.

Uhhhh, me in the CX now & again.  I've a recording of my '42 contract
BC-187.  It was made in N. Ohio with me in Atlanta.  80m.  It's a .wav
