[Milsurplus] SCR-178 on ebay (Not mine)

Here's something that you don't see every day, most of an SCR-178:

I wonder if it has the tubes, and if the wiring has been fungus-proofed. I have a NOS SCR-178 that did not include tubes (the type 10 and 865 tubes in the transmitter can be hard to find). I doubt that many got a proper MFP treatment, for reason that they really weren't ever used for anything. Mine had some fungus in the wiring. But it only cost me $50, while the auction item is up to $760. I had to spend another $100 for the tubes and the J-44 key that slides into a holder on the front cover.

I can't imagine why these were being procured in 1942. They are more like 1932 in technology. I suspect few were ever used except possibly in training situations.

Does anyone actually operate one of these dinosaurs today?

PS: I have violated these de facto customs for citing ebay items:

(1) Don't state what the item is, except cryptically.
(2) Don't include the whole URL, just the item number.

Custom number 2 is particularly vexing. It is just as easy to copy and post the whole URL as it is just the item number, and then much easier for a reader to call up the item. I guess some want us to "work" for the info, or they think the list manager will smite them for any posting that contains explict reference to ebay. But the list manager for milsurplus has a very reasonable policy in regard to allowing list citation of ebay gear of interest to the list that is not being auctioned by the member making the post.

There may be a few like me who never look at ebay citations on this list that don't include the URL.
