I don't have the manual or the radio handy, but i think the cap was a paltry
1 uF at 600 v and i think it was called C101-A or something like that. I
concluded that ANY capacitor right next to the dropping resistor was
imperilled. At first i considered using some of the storage for the filter
cap but this would prevent stowing of all the cords etc. I decided a
choke input filter would be a way to go and would also decrease the
load on the power transformer, with vaguely possible good effects on its
longevity. When i left the leaky cap out, however, the receiver supply
voltage was too low to fire the receiver voltage regulators. I needed to
decrease the dropping resistor for the receiver. Then, a move to another
city came up and everything went on the way back burner. I still tend to
prefer this approach, choke input filter, and i think i will finish this up when
i finally get around to that project again. Maybe with choke input filter the
B+ would be low enuff to even be able to put to use a high-voltage mylar
cap, a 450v one. These beauties have capacities up into 10-20 uF.
Kees, what was the rubber dial piece you replaced and what did you use
for a replacement? -Hue Miller
