Guys:
Here is an example of the deficit of first person information, or even documentation about these subjects, time. I have been gathering information on Wullenweber antennas for 20 years or so, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the principal investigator of the late 1940s University of Illinois program which developed the US versions for ONR and USAF based on the WW2 German Technology. There are now some tens of pounds of papers residing in the Naval Postgraduate School library in Monterey, CA which relate to this development, which I reviewed before shipping them out there. And, I have copies of many of them, and the CD of the translation of the captured German documents upon which our design was based. I have recently worked at both FRD-10 and FLR-9 sites, and interviewed many current maintenance and operating personnel, all of whom think they know everything there is to know about their system, because their trainers told them so. But, I have yet to find one individual who has a version of the history of these systems which is anywhere near accurate. But they know the system as it existed when they left there. And tend to forget that one of their first jobs at their new assignment was to assist in installation of the latest whiz-bang improvewment which made the recollection of every previous operetor or mat man obsolete.
And the web sites devoted to them, many assembled by former Navy Security Group or AF Security Service personnel? Fraught with errors. So, please, when you share your recollections, emphasize the time frame so others can realize it wasn't necessarily always that way.

George
