Unless that PC board is potted, you should be able to easily trace it out.  I remember back in the dark ages when Motorola started replacing carbon microphones with transistorized equivalents, the circuit they used had one PNP Germanium transistor, and maybe 4 other components, hooked up in some crazy emitter follower circuit powered by the output line, so it plugged right into a carbon mike jack with no mods required.  Or has this modern stuff got ICs with the nomenclature cleverly ground off?
