AFAIK, there's no such thing as a AN/TRC-77 or -88 battery box. The lower section that connects to the RT-654(*)/TRC-77 and looks like a battery case is the BB-447(*)/TRC-77 battery itself. The BB-447 and BB-447A are not interchangable.
I've never owned either battery, so I don't know if an exhausted BB could be emptied and used as a case. I don't think there are many exhausted BB-447(*) out there either.
FYI, there's a page from the manual at
http://www.fernblatt.net/pic/TRC77set.gif
that shows RT-654A/TRC-77 components.
I've always wondered why the small AN/TRC-77 and -88 sets weren't given AN/PRC- nomenclatures, and why the rather large, heavy AN/PRC-47 and AN/PRC-41 sets weren't given AN/GRC- or AN/TRC- nomenclatures. Just arbitrary JAN-system whimsy, I'd guess, like many of those aircrew survival radios that were assigned AN/URC- nomenclatures without any real reason for AN/PRC- tags not being used instead.
