But seriously, though, when I was an apprentice at Marconi's in England
around 1962, we had supplied the Marconi Doppler Navigator to the French for
their Mirages. All of a sudden, all the indicators and dials were taken out
of service and returned to have the luminous paint removed. It seems that
some-one had measured the radiation from _all_ the cockpit instruments and
come up with a horribly large number!
And of course, in a fighter cockpit everything is _very_ near to you.
