A short hop in the way-back machine: it sounds like Robert is describing the
plug for the old electrodynamic speaker - typically four-prong (I have two old
ones in stock), two pins were for the actual voice coil, and two were the
electromagnet that polarized it, energized as a choke for the B+ supply. There
WAS a 5-prong v., but I bet you'd have to dig thru a lot of duds in a thrift
store to find one ... a local emporium has at least five wooden-case radio duds,
priced from about $15 up, but I only noticed a couple that were old enough to
have the electrodynamic speaker plug - but then, the table-top battery radios
might have it too.
Should I check further, or would making it up out of individual pins pushed thru
a plastic disc be easier?
BTW, he thinks he has a 'green radio' squirreled away, "buried deep under a pile
of other stuff in the barn", which I'm encouraging him to unearth. We don't
need yet another MAW to find the land-fill ... e
