[Milsurplus] Question on USMC 1942 tactical radio gear

I've been reading a 2002-published book called "Into the Rising Sun," which is full of the recollections of veterans of the WWII Pacific ground/jungle war. One veteran of the USMC 1st Raider Battalion refers, while describing action in August 1942 at Guadalcanal, to using his "SCR." He describes how the enemy used a "SCR" captured from another company to send misleading signals. The veteran also refers to someone handing him the "SCR."

What would be a good guess for the actual set that was in use? It almost sounds like a SCR-536 (BC-611), but did the USMC use the BC-611, especially in 1942? I suppose I tend to think of the TBY as the USMC's tactical radio set in that era, but why would that be referred to as the "SCR?" The SCR-194 or -195 seem unlikely.
