[Milsurplus] RR-6 Receiver

Greetings to the list.

Interesting mechanical problem. Excessive backlash. I found a "C" shaped
spring with 2- 90 degree bends, one at each end, loose around the
variable capacitor tuning shaft.

It appears that this spring placed tension on one of the two brass worm
gear pieces so as to take out the "slop".

The question is: Where do the spring ends go. The logical place appears
to be on the OPPOSITE side of the gear from where I found it (capacitor
side). This might well be the case as I am not the first to work on this
unit.

I have some other problems with the unit, but it does work. Power supply
has been recapped (new caps placed within the original bathtub cases).
Transmitter is fine - 12-15 watts output after the 6X4 (probably expired
due to the leaking caps) was replaced.

Receiver is sensitive but the volume control has little if any effect
and the BFO does not seem to operate. Hard to tell as I cannot tune in
CW stations reliably with all the backlash.

I do have complete documentation on the units, but no mechanical details.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Dave, W5WP
