The BB-490 were an example of a bad idea that went downhill from there.
There are a number of Military portables that use either 12 V or 24 V. A
number of identical sized batteries were developed that had two (matched)
12 V sections inside, so the two could be put in series for 24 V
applications, and in parallel for 12 V applications. There was the BB-390
(NMH I think), and BB-590 (NiCad I think), and the BA-5590 (Lithium), and
the BB-490 (Lead acid). The lead acid system needs to be kept charged or
the cells will sulphate. I do not think the military is the place for what
turns out to be a high maintenance application. Chances are 99.44% that the
batteries you have do not have anywhere near the capacity they are supposed to.
Anyway, the answer to your original question is SINCGARS, most of the
SATCOM sets, PRC-113 I think, and others I forget.
