Robert,

Agree, but I was only referring to the present problems that began when the
British and French created our bevy of present countries out of what was
then the Ottoman Empire (The Turks) who had been on Germanys side in WW I.
Given that various tribes and countries had been fighting in the region for
the past couple of millennia, the artificial borders set up just after WW I
didn't take into account any of the previous conflict, or outcomes.  

Of course, Now we get Iraqi radios to play with occasionally.

Sorry, but actually that's wrong by almost a millennia.  This war didn't 
start after WW-I, but near the end of the 11th Century.  And it wasn't set
into 
motion by the French or the British (who barely existed at the time), but by
the 
original Mohammed, who wrote how to do it all down in great detail (in the 
Koran).  There have been numerous recent references to it as WW-III, but 
actually it is more correctly WW-0.  The longest running conflict on the
planet.
