Looking in my TM 11-227 (10 April 1944) I note that Radio Terminal Set 
AN/TRC-3 and Radio Relay Set AN/TRC-4 used the same transmitter and receiver as the 
AN/TRC-1.   Looking through the accompanying illustrations and data sheets I 
see no evidence of an interconnection box.   There is reference to "Maintenance 
Equipment" MK-5/TRC-3 and MK-6/TRC-4 which may have included the box you 
have.   There was also a 115vac power supply PE-75 that went with all three 
configurations.

Have been a long time surplus hound but have never seen any of this stuff 
during my travels.   Don't see any reference to it in the usual MILSURPLUS 
conversion books either so doubt that it is/was a common item.   In any case, 
doesn't look like it would have much to offer for Ham use given the frequency range.
