Unserviceable but Repairable

Why 250 kc channel spacing?
BC-1000 vfo runs @ (output freq)/2 -4.3 Example 44.6 mhz, about channel 20,
has VFO on 18 mhz. Hard to make it dead stable.
250kc spacings obviate need to put xcvrs 'on the nose,' AFC will keep
'em tied together.
So huge spacing UNRELATED to huge deviation
Once-over of RT70 1946 schemat makes it seem RT70 did same.
BC-659s used 2 xtal rx channels & tx vfo afc-locked. Made for simple FM
modulator but in practilce 'often outa wack' (W4MEW of Ft. Monmouth)
BC-684 used xtal TXs but needed PM & piles 'o multipliers to get to, say,
34 mcs.
In conclusion. Don't worry about PRC-25 / BC-1000 interop if BC-1000
vfo'd to 25's freq. Both probably use same deviation.
