John,
On the one hand, you would like to see the receiver returned to it original
condition (nostalgia), on the other, you like the way it works and aren't a
purist, i.e., caught between a cushion and a soft place, so to speak.
Since you got it with the mod, you are free of any guilt. So, your decision
should be guided by how you intend to use it.
If you work a lot of SSB, the mod is a big help, and you might as well leave
it the way it is. If you plan to use it for CW and/or AM, restoration would
be worthwhile.
