In addition to the deviation issues, the squelch for the PRC-25 requires a 150 Hz tone to open.  You'd have to use the "ON" (no squelch) position on the PRC-25.  

I always thought it was odd that the PRC-25/77 didn't have selectable OLD SQUELCH (carrier only) / NEW SQUELCH (150 Hz tone) modes like the associated AN/VRC-12 gear does.  There was some period of transition from the Korean War era GRC-3 to -8 and PRC-6, -8 to -10 type of gear which doesn't generate the 150 Hz squelch tone.  I saw the USMC using the PRC-6 and -9 with the PRC-25 as late as 1972.

On the issue of squelch, I've also never understood why the BC-1000 has squelch, yet a later unit like the BC-1335 does not.  The BC-1335 is a pretty neat design except for the absence of squelch.
