They were part of a multichannel telephone system, running PDM or PCM
modulation from a external modulator that generated 24 or 48 telephone
channels, their is a order wire set that allows you to communicate
directly with the remote site ( also digital) but the radios are wide
band by nature. they were replaced by satellite and newer technology and
have been surpluses in the hundreds, many times with the entire truck
mounted shelter. I had a couple sets of them and was about the hardest
thing in the world to get rid of, almost ended up cutting them up just
for parts. although if you get the 80 ft hardline sections that ran to
the antennas they were useful.
