The buoy has an endless loop tape recorder in it. The tape looks like an
old radio station cart that has been made a lot smaller. There is a
controller inside that is set to cause scuttle ports to activate after a
specified period of time. The battery is salt water activated. These were
in use with SSBN subs to send a recorded message to aircraft and then have
the buoy sink.
I had a number of these at one time.
