There was a lot of CP/M around before RS TRS80 Mod 1
came out. When I got my TRS80 Mod 3 it was said there
were more programers writing in BASIC than any other
language, including ASSY and COBOL. RS had a word
processor called "ScripsIt" but it died quickly. I
still have some BASIC stuff I wrote back then, and
I run a thing called "GWBASIC" although I tried DRDOS
for a while. Problem with the TRS-80 was it did
interfere with my ham radio. I wish I'd hung on to
the AT&T 6300's I had. Also, IBM metal keyboards
were unique. My machine here is an "A-Open" that's
eight years old. In the early 70's H-P came out
with a small table top or rack mount machine that
had 48 K wire core. It never survived. AT&T came
up with their 3B1 desk top which took a good 5 minutes
to boot up from a cold start. AT&T ran UNIX then.
Back then the PDP-11 was more attractive, but the
1401 was smaller.
