[Milsurplus] BC-229 accessory?

Hi all,

Took today off and visited the Castle Air Museum. While
browsing the gift shop, I looked through a book on the
T-6 Texan. One picture was of the cockpit of one of the
prewar variants. It had a BC-229 mounted underneath
the right side of the instrument panel.

But what was odd was the box to the left of it.

Looked about the size of the BC-230 transmitter, but it had
a mechanical linkage to the tuning shaft connection of the
receiver, and what looked like a dial(like a frequency readout)
and bandswitch.

The resolution of the photograph was not good enough to read
the labeling. No meter on the front, but two connectors on
the front, one of which looked the same size as the PL-61
on the receiver.

My guess is some form of DF adapter, but does anyone
know what it might be?

Thanks

Jack
