I bought something on eBay recently from a surplus
outlet in Albuquerque.  Since I was soon to visit my
son there, I arranged for a pickup.  Son went with
me and instantly recognized the smell from when he
had accompanied me on earlier jaunts when he was
VERY young.

  These are my best recollections from 30+ years ago. Most all these places
had that great "surplus smell" to them, one thing for sure is you can never
forget that "surplus smell"
