I remember in the mid 70s going to Mendelsons Surplus in downtown Dayton
during school snow days and spending all day there (I was not your normal
kid).
At that time I remember seeing shelves of R-390s and OS-XXX TTY scopes and
tubes tubes and more tubes. They at one time had hundreds of 5V6s I bought
several dozen then and still use them with no problems.I think they were a
$1.50 apiece then.
They also had a contract with NCR to sell surplus items from the Peachtree
Ga supply depot as long as NCR could buy it back at cost when/if needed. Some
of it was very usefull like 12v 15 amp supplys
wich at one time they had hundreds. These were out of NCRs (TTL) Century
mainframe wich was already starting to phase out. Strangely enough,in a
couple of years I will spend the next 16 years
With NCR repairing Power Supplys and Circuit boards.
Over the past 2 years I bought alot of parts they were purging from
inventory wich really was thrown on the floor and then swept up into a
box.In most cases if it was just dumped out on shelves, people could see it
and buy it ...what a concept.
There is little these days there left for Mil collectors except some oddball
xtals and tubes.A great selection of reststors and caps though.
When I left for Fl this May,I spent a couple of days digging around and did
manage to find a few things I missed for 25+ years.
Will be TXing soon in SW Fa.Antennas in SW Fl require a few more
considerations!
Thanks QHO on Cape Coral!
