Hi Mike,
Could this be some sort of bench test box for the ARC-3?I'll look in my manuals tonight.

I placed a photo of an MX-XA-9/ARC-3(XA-1) at
http://members.cox.net/aaf-radio-4/ARC-3_XA-1_box.jpg. It's about the
same width as the box on the rear of an AN/ARC-1 rack. I haven't had
any time to delve into its internals...the plug looks like one from the
VRC series with that coax pin, dunno for sure. It's a strange mixture
of ARC-5 bits and pieces - there are no ARC-3 parts on it that I can see
externally.
