Another reason just occurred to me. The guy may not want our technical patrimony
to go off shore.

Some years ago, when I was into German cameras, the Japanese just vacuumed up
everything in sight at crazy prices. He may be trying to forestall that kind of
thing. Look at what the word 'Lancaster' will do to the price of Brit WW II
radio gear. Examples on request.
