Hi

I hate to think what would have happened if you asked the same officer
what a sextant was. Last time I checked they are *required* to run two
navigation systems. The rules go back a *long* way and the penalties in
the event of an accident are kind of nasty ....

The whole issue with Loran has been it's impending death by government
edict. With no agreement on keeping the system running nobody wants to
put money into more modern designs. There is no reason at all why you
can't do the same sort of system with Loran (all stations you can hear)
as with GPS and then display the data. A number of people have come up
with home project type receivers that do just that.

Right now the surplus item to look for are the high end Loran based
timing receivers. They are out there and with Loran going on for a
while they should be a useful thing to have around.

	Take Care!
