John,

The receiver's BT-1 is nominally 4.5 vdc (positive to ground, of course), but the manual says 4 to 6 volts is OK.  You could substitute one of those little 6 v photo batteries like Canon used in the A-1 SLR.  There's virtually no current flow.

The manual (TM 11-263) is pretty common and cheap at about $15.

Good to see your call here.  It's a little different from those QRP lists!
