Refinishing the front panel (if it needs it) is a bit of a chore (although
another list member is hopefully still working toward offering that service) but
cleaning up the rest of it isn't too much of a chore. I've used a water hose
and the Houston outdoor oven in the past (pulled the meters first).
The receiver is pretty broad but it's better than a BC-454 and has better
audio. It does OK on 3885. The sidewinders generally avoid that vicinity. A
good addition is the noise limiter kit that Collins built for them in '44
(especially down here with all the thunderstorms). I've had in mind for years
building a product detector kit using the noise limiter kit (of which I have a
stack). Like most diode detectors, it does overload on strong CW, FSK and SSB
signals if you don't ride herd on the RF gain control.
