1. It is true that our country is at war.
2. We're NOT at war with Canada.
3. Customs agents and Border guards should be better trained as to what they
should really be worried about.
4. The Canadian visitor came to our country to share the hobby with
Americans.
5. The Canadian visitor spent money in our country.

Your statement is rude and uncalled for!

In all my travels to Canada I never met anything but courteous treatment
from Canadian officials - and I traveled back and forth with both US and
Canadian military surplus radios - even post 9/11.

On the other hand, showing my ham license on both sides of the border when
questioned about the radios, the short explanation of the radios being
surplus, and "I'm authorized by the FCC and by the Canadian authorities by
the reciprocal agreement to operate this equipment on the amateur bands" met
with a quick "go on" wave by the border personnel.

Most military vehicle collectors who also have radio equipment on board are
not hams. I'm sure a valid ham license would have expedited things,
according to my experience.

1. This country is at war weather we want to be or not.

2. Border guards and Dept of Customs agents are trained and paid to be
suspicious and have never been known for courtesy - its not in the job
description.

3. Aforementioned guards however are trained to act on suspicious
cicumstances
- even a vintage military vehicle decked out to the T's.

4. Our Canadian visitor in the original post experienced only a minor delay,
paid no fine, was not incarcerated and was allowed to continue on his way.

In conclusion, if our Canadian visitor does not like how we do things here
he /
she should stay home or perhaps go visit France.
