Oh, it was used in 'Nam all right...and for a number of years afterwards.
According to people I have talked with who USED them there, they ALWAYS
got through, or "made comms", as they put it. Later types of replacements
were not well liked.

I have a nearly complete set here (no burst encoder, darn it) which I have
used on the air regularly. Both the receiver and the transmitter are very easy
to use and of excellent quality.

I use mine with the GN-58A hand-crank generator for Field Day once in a
while.

I have attempted to interface one of those combination 6/12/24 VDC
dynamotor/vibrator power supplies which were orginally used with the
AN/GRC-9, (DM- something), but have so far been unsuccessful. I really like
the whine of the dyno and the singing of the vibrator. Kinda like bagpipes.
Same pitch too. A.

Some day when I am rich and famous (ha!) maybe I can get one of those itty
bitty 2 cycle gas generators for it. PE-163, is it?

Its kinda like buying accessories for a favorite car...or wife...
