Both the Allies and the Axis has DF sets made for intercept work - not
really specific for receiver reradiation, but they could be used, I
suppose, to some extent. Certainly they could not get some relatively
normal quiet receiver over miles and miles, but in the emeny's mind, why
take the chance? Also, who knows how sensitive the other guys DF sets
are? What if the enemy made a leap in technology, and all of a sudden
could pick up previously "safe" sets at "safe" distances?
Anyway...
The Signal Corps had the SCR-291 and SCR-502 - LARGE land based
systems. The US Navy had a bunch - the "common" ones are the DAB, DAK,
DAQ, and DAU.
I am certain the British had some, but I know no details.
The Germans had the EP-2 series.
The thing common to all of these sets is that the aren't just common
loops, like the aircraft sets. They have crosed loops with goniometers or
Adcocks.
