Due to the insane weight of the VRC-19, there was no way i was going to
ship it, or even deliver it anywhere past 10 miles. Luckily, i did find a local
person who could use the thing: me! This, after i cracked open the case and
observed: an AC power supply, with a 420v xfmr that will do just fine to run
the ATB or the modulator section of the ATD; 2 5840 tubes for the RS-6; a
transmitter section that i will donate to another fellow, and which looks like
it could be a reasonable foundation of a 2m amplifer; a lower voltage AC
supply which could power the receiver section of the GRC-9 and others. The
AC supply has some huge, attractive selenium rectifiers, which look like they
might even work. All this in unused, clean condition. Yes, i am a supporter of
organ donation. So - it was worth taking. I took it on the condition that taking
it, lowered the price of the R-392 i bought.
I sure wonder why an AC powered radio had to be bullet proof and have such
a heavy mounting bracket.
BTW, the 1.4 v supply of the VRC receiver, i see only, for filtering, a 30mH choke
and a voltage regulator shunt diode. Is there more, and if not, how did it filter
without large caps?
Also- i will be looking for these R-392 parts: 2 round connectors for front panel left. Yes,
both the plug and the actual connector socket which was formerly on the front panel.
If anyone has a junked R-392, i would like to buy these 2 parts.
