[Milsurplus] Odd SCR-510

Group,

Several days ago, a local MV collector brought in what I'll call the active
components of an SCR-510 (BC-620 and PE-120-A). He wanted them brought up to
working condition so that he can put them back into his M8 Greyhound.

I didn't see any immediately obvious changes to the PE-120 but on the front
panel of the BC-620 is now a 4-pin AN connector and an SO-239 (UHF connector).
They are installed from the rear of the panel instead of on the front as most
hams seem to do. The wiring harness going to them is "properly" routed and
laced. Etc. There is also a small relay mounted to the chassis below the AN
connector. The nameplate is missing, as the two connectors occupy part of its
space on the panel. But the nameplate mounting screws were put back in place
to plug the holes in the panel (except for the top left one which is where the
AN connector clearance hole was cut.

I am familiar with a somewhat similar modification done to the SCR-610 that
turned it into the AN/TRC-20 Sound Ranging Set. But those sets also got new
nameplates. Has anyone ever heard of a similar official mod being done to the
SCR-510? Or is this just a particularly well done ham or maybe commercial mod?
