[Milsurplus] URM-25D vs. URM-25F

I dunno, Dave ...
Have or had several of the alphabet -- C, D and F. There are supposed to be
some differences of possible significance. I think all three are prone to
at least have the modulation go flaky -- needful of a few cap replacements.
The F has a flush panel and, as I recall, is easier on dial bulb
replacement. The others have those integral thumbscrew lamps. I recall
borrowing one from a unit to swap into another. The clearance wasn't the
same and as I screwed it down tight, the bulb apparently hit the edge of the
dial and broke. Of course, you really don't need the bulbs unless you're
fond of doing full blown alignments in the dark.
Well, that's superficial -- there are more significant design differences,
but I forgot what. If I'm not mistaken, two of the models are closer,
though skip letters, i.e. the F is a reprise of the C? Or it was some other
pair?
In general, 40-50 years after the 90 day warrantee ran out on 'em, I think
the quality/results would be more of an individual condition thing rather
that correspond much to just what letter it is. Some may have been treated
to one or more overhauls by the military, and some may have been serviced by
private owners over the years as well. Another consideration is the
accessories, which tend to vary in terms of completeness.
I also recall that the D's were favored, however several years ago, I bought
a C from Fair Radio as the few D's on hand were rough.
So, the definitive answer, as it is with most things ... it depends. ;-)
