Had lunch w. him today. REALLY neat, still-sharp man

He's the fella I reported was running s SCR-188 in North Africa just
a VT4C's throw from Kiserine Pass.

Same guy I reported was working USAAF fighters on CW. WRONG!
All the 11-man SCR-188 team ever did was work other teams & NEVER
anything of importance. That went via wire & teletype.

Fighters on VHF (Spits / Brit E1148 '522 precursors at 1st?) And that's
the way it was thru the war - right up and after his unit re-equipped
w. "BC-610* 'bread truck'" in Italy in mid-43

Russ never tuned a BC-191 or a BC-610. Crewman for that, crewman for mo-gen,
crewman for antenna install, 5 for hig-speed cw, ad nauseum.

Russ started @ Oran & upon dock landing found a warehouse fulla wine - out went
all fresh water, in went the vino!

Went to Anzio on a LST on Italy D-day + 2.

He's on web at

There's a "Where's Waldo" that ID mavens will tear right into. Good
hunting

Marty... who w. another guy here will fake up a probable working
           foto session SCR-188 soon.

*Russ flabbergasted that BC-610 started life as hamjob HT4. He sed:
 "all that weight for 500w?"

Told a surprised him too of the "green books 100 miles in motion"
 design objective.
