Hi all,
Have just got an un-modified BC-348Q powered up. This one is
totally original, with the dynamotor & every original part intact (it was
o'hauled in '56). Running it on a 27v DC supply. Not a bad receiver.
Frequency drift is almost nil, just a fraction at startup. Quite sensitive,
I could receive all the 80m nets around Australia in the evening on a 15
foot piece of wire. Love the dial bandspread, makes tuning on 80m quite
easy. I notice on the BC-348C dial there is less dial 'spread'. The xtal
filter cuts the noise, (& signal), it adds a bit of distortion to the
received audio. On MVC have to ride the gain on SSB, guess the BFO injection
level could be better, but guess they didn't need high BFO level back in
WW2! The radio op in WW2 aircraft should have been able to pick up the
liason signal with one of these, and the set would not have drifted off
either!
