I had the same problem a few years ago.

There is nothing special about the meter. It is an ordinary garden variety 50 uA. movement. I took apart the old meter, removed the face plate and installed it in the replacement. (The mounting holes were even the same spacing!)

The series resistance of the meter movement is immaterial, but you should recalibrate after making the replacement.

The meter movement is shunted with a large value low voltage electrolytic capacitor. My original meter failed when the electrolytic went open, causing the coil-pointer to oscillate violently back and forth at a 60 Hz rate. I suggest you check this cap before installing the new meter movement and replace if necessary.
