There were a lot of heater-type submini's developed.  I 
think we're mostly familiar with the filament types that 
were used in the field radios, but alot of the others showed 
up in radar and other electronic warfare applications.

A coulple of communications uses do come to mind like the 
RCA AN/SRR-11/12/13 comm receivers and the receiver in the 
RS-6 agent set.
